Baltimore, Md. – Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) and Sports America, Inc. announced the rosters for the 36th Capital Classic today. Presented by Bart & Associates the annual high school men’s basketball All-Star game, set for Thursday, April 9, 2009 at American University, pits the nation’s top prospects versus the D.C. area’s elite seniors.
Headlining the U.S. All-Stars is Milton Jennings, a 6-9 forward from Summerville, SC who was recently named to the prestigious McDonald’s All-America team and signed with Clemson University. Averaging 22 points and 9 rebounds Jennings has led Pinewood Prep to four consecutive championships.
Joining Jennings is a heralded group which has primarily committed to play in the ACC or Big East next year, including Jordan Williams, a 6-10 center from Torrington, CT, who is headed to Maryland in the fall. Williams has been a force in the post, scoring 50 or more points on three occasions, including a 52-point outing in a game where he shattered the backboard.
The Capital All-Stars will be led by Montrose Christian’s Mouphtaou Yarou, a 6-10 center who will attend Villanova University and Ian Hummer, the WCAC Player of the Year from Gonzaga, who will suit up for the Princeton Tigers next season. Among the 12-man roster are ten of the region’s premier players who have committed to some of the biggest programs in Division I.
WCAC Coach of the Year Gonzaga Coach Steve Turner will head the Capital All-Stars, while his counterpart for the U.S. team is Kevin Keatts from Hargrave Military Academy. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be proceeded by a 6 pm contest featuring District All-Stars versus Suburban All-Stars. The festivities will be kicked off with the fan favorite dunk and three point contests at Gonzaga High School on Wednesday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m.
From its prominent beginning in 1974, the Capital Classic has introduced fans to the next generation of superstars. The greats, including Moses Malone, Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson and Dominique Wilkins have all participated in the Capital Classic, as well as the new age All-Stars of Lebron James, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony.
Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster at (202) 397-SEAT or Corrigan Sports Enterprises at (410) 605-9381. More information is available online at www.TheCapitalClassic.com or contact CSE.
